Journal entry October 2006:
"I return to Lebanon now after 30 years to fill the emptiness that stretches all the way to god. I'll be looking for him there. And if I find him, I'll be profoundly disappointed. He didn't stop the killings and destruction. Not this summer. Not in the last 30 years. Not in the last 1000 years. Where is god? Where have all the gods gone?"
